Global Warming
Take a position on Global Warming. Is Al Gore's position on Global Warming, that man's CO2 emissions the cause. Or is the view that the earth is natural warming, that CO2 levels naturally rise, the cause. You need three points with support. It doesn't matter which side you take as long as you support it. No first person. You also need to respond at least once to someone else's blog. You will have to do a little research for this, remember support! Also, make sure that you leave your name and class period for both posts.

The cause of Global warming is man's CO2 emissions. First, we always use our car everyday to go every place where we want to go. And we use shampoo and conditionars also. The most important reason is make lot of factory. People wnat to make lot of money so they bulid lots of factorys. Those factory are making CO2. Co2 is really dangerous for our earth. Those are destory ozone layer. Second is the earth's surface temperature go up higher and higher. The researchers behind the new report said they had "high confidence" in the conclusion that global temperatures were at a peak over the last 400 years. However, because of the spotty nature of data earlier, particularly for the Southern Hemisphere, it had less confidence in Mann's conclusions for the period from 900 to 1600 and "very little confidence" in conclusions about previous years. Here is some reason. The atmosphere surrounds Earth and protects us by blocking out dangerous rays from the sun. And the ozone protect us from the direct ray of light. When we are destroying the ozone. But some ozone is not good for us.Good up high and bad near by. When the ozone destroy, we might get skin cancer or etc. Third is greenhouse.
When the emission of infra-red radiation in the atmosphere warms a planet's surface, it is known as the Green House Effect. The Greenhouse effect is a natural phenomena occurring on planet Earth. We made greenhouse. So many factorys are making CO2 and burning trees also reason make CO2.
When our earth destroy, we can't live. So we better protect the earth.

HaNa, are humans the ONLY cause to global warming? The usage of cars and conditioners are absolutes for humans, but cars and other "humanistic" things that we use everyday, are not the only thing causing global warming.
Global warming is caused by both, humans, and by the weather change.
1. Although humans do use gas and other such things that HaNa brought up in her previous post, some of that is true. The smoke and exhaust that is released through the car and into our atmospheres, are quite destructive of our air, and earth. So many scientists believe that the cause of global warming is the fault of people, but
2. People haven't really had cars the last 400 years, where as, global warming has been occurring for that long, and possibly longer. Scientists in Paris, (Feb. 2nd.) say that the Earth has been 'in for centuries of climbing weather.' Mr. Williams showed our H. Gov. class a graph that depicted the rising and falling of the weather in the last few hundred years. Such things that may have harmed the Earth today, were not created or made 'a few hundred years ago.'
3. Global warming is a mixture of people and the natural effect of the sun. With the technologies we have today, it is possible that we are harming the ozone layers, but, humans are a very small percentage of the earth's rising and falling heat. The nature of the sun, and the placement is the majority of global warming.
Global warming, in itself is a question. Have we really seen a difference in the weather? There are plenty of high intellectual models that show that global warming is 'off the charts,' (No pun intended.) but is that what's really happening? Everybody is telling us that the weather is rising to such drastic levels, yet this winter we had snow, and Georgia hasn't had snow in a few years.

Global Warming is not caused by anything man has done or anything man will do. It is a natural cause and it is seen in three aspects. The first, is in climate history. From 1910-1940 the earth was experiencing an even more extreme warming than what the earth is currently going through. The earth gets colder and warmer regardless of man's actions. Another way Global Warming is proven to be natural is because of climate models. These models have been manipulated by Al Gore to frighten people into the belief that man is the reason the earth is warming, when actually the models are inconclusive. These models are useless for predictions. They seem to be very sophistocated, when actually they have a very limited set of components, making the results inaccurate. The last aspect that proves Global Warming is natural is because of ice caps. Simply, there is no evidence to support the claim that ice caps are melting. The tempertaure has not dropped in Greenland or Antartica like Al gore claims they have. Overall, the government should not act on this issue of Global Warming because they would start to control everything that people do and interfere with man's rights. There is just simply no observational data that can prove Global Warming is caused by man's own doing.

Contrary to what alarmists in the global warming controversy say, human activities are not the cause of global warming. First of all, the multitude of well-known, intelligent scientists who are actually skeptics far outweigh the number of alarmists, a large portion of which are government funded. For example, there were 52 government funded scientists who produced 2007 Summary for Policy Makers, which is a shortened version of the IPCC’s climate assessment. On the other hand, 650 non-government funded scientists produced More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims: Scientists Continue to Debunk "Consensus" in 2008. The list of scientists responsible for this report include the Nobel Prize winner for Physics, numerous PhDs, and other well-known, well-educated Scientists. Dr, Joanna Simpson, the first woman to get a PhD in meteorology, said, “Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly.... As a scientist I remain skeptical.... The main basis of the claim that man's release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models. We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface system.” Her statement strongly reinforces the assumption that alarmists are mainly alarmists because they are paid to be.
Climate history also contradicts the claims of alarmists. Alarmist’s say that the climate change that is occurring is unprecedented. However, history proves otherwise. Events such as the medieval warming period, in which temperatures were actually higher than they are now, prove that climate change such as the change that is occurring today is a normal part of nature’s cycle. The Little ice age also proves that the temperatures will fall again, and that the earth will not continue heating. In Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” he uses a graph known as the hockey stick model that does not depict these two time periods and shows a rapid rise in temperature in recent years. However, two scientists proved that his graph was inaccurate. The graph is one of 11 falsities that were found in his “An Inconvenient Truth.”
One very important argument for alarmists is the issue of the sea level rise. Alarmists say that global warming will cause the icecaps to melt rapidly, resulting in the sea level’s rising at increasing speed. A major advocate of human caused global warming, Jim Hanson, estimated that the sea level will rise about 1 foot a year. However, in reality, the rise is approximately 2 mm a year. In addition to Hanson’s inaccuracies, the IPCC’s inconsistencies give reason to believe that the alarmist claims are not accurate and have no evidence to support them. Every time that the IPCC has come out with a report, it’s estimate on future sea level rise has lowered. It is clear from the evidence given that man caused global warming is a hype, a money maker, and as the Nobel Prize winner Physics, Ivar Giaever calls it, a religion.

Kendall is completely corect in saying that the evidene for human caused globl warming is weak, and in many cases, proven to be completely inaccurate. If the alarmists are so wrong and inacurate in the areas that they have been proven wrong, how can anyone have any reason to think that any of their other claims and statements are true? It is understandable that the idea of man caused global warming be taken into consideration, but the overwhelming evidence against man caused global warming should be a red flag to the government to not fund alarmists. the problem is not really even a problem, because it is natural, has happened in the past, has been resolved naturally in the past, and will be resolved naturally still. Also, the "problem" is not man caused, meaning man can not fix it. The government shouldbe conserving money to get America out of the economic crisis that it is currently going through, not funding something that they can not control.
I totally agree with Katie about the causes of Global Warming. Global Warming occurs because of the people's conducts as well as natural phenomena.
1. It is said that in 2002, about 40% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions occurred from the burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity generation like power plants. Also, 33% of U.S. carbon dioxide comes from the burning of gasoline by cars and light trucks. Todays, people use their vehicles to go all over the places they want even if they could walk.
2. It is also said that building structures account for about 12% of carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, while carbon dioxide is the most important greenhouse gas, methane is second. Methane which is usually used in building structure causes Global warming like carbon dioxide.
3. Although the poeple's faults may cause Global Warming, one can not say that it's all about the people's misuse of the nature. The atmosphere contains about 750 billion tons of carbon, while 1020 billion tons are dissolved in the surface layers of the world's ocean. Also, forests contains 610 billion tons of Carbon and soils contains 1580 billion tons. Thus, the people can't say that Global Warming is caused by certain things, but they should be aware of the fact that Global Warming is caused by both people and nature.

Joanna is absolutely correct in saying that Global Warming is a natural cause of warming and not a reacion to man's CO2 emissions. She gives overwhelming evidence that Global Warming is not man's fault through sea levels, climate history, and the falsities in Al Gore's hockey stick model. It was important that she mentioned the earth had even greater amounts of warming in the Medival times than what the earth is currently experiencing. It was shocking to read this statemnet, "First of all, the multitude of well-known, intelligent scientists who are actually skeptics far outweigh the number of alarmists, a large portion of which are government funded." It is interesting to see how there are far more scientists who are skeptics, yet the alarmists are the ones that are believed by the public.

Some people say that the cause of global warming is human activity, although they are not entirely correct. Some people claim that mankind's release of greenhouse gases is the cause of Global Warming and this claim is based almost entirely upon climate models. In Al Gore’s Video that Mrs. Lott showed our class that was called An Inconvenient Truth, he uses a graph in his presentation known as the hockey stick model that does not depict these two time periods and shows a rapid rise in temperature in recent years. However, two scientists proved that his graph was inaccurate. The graph is one of 11 falsities that were found in his “An Inconvenient Truth” that Joanna found through her research. Because she did that, everyone now has to do this. So, thanks a lot Joanna. Joanna did have some great points though in the print out that we were given that helped alot on this blog. The hypothesis that Earth's atmosphere is warming because of the release of "greenhouse gases" is not supported by accurate evidence. Most scientists do not believe human activities threaten to disrupt the Earth’s climate. More than 17,000 scientists have signed a petition circulated by the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine saying that there is no scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. The latest, most reliable sources of temperature data show no global warming trend. Satellite readings of temperatures in the lower troposphere, an area scientists predict would immediately reflect any global warming, show no warming since readings began 23 years ago. Only land-based temperature stations show a warming trend, and these stations do not cover the entire globe, are often contaminated by heat generated by nearby urban development, and are subject to human error. Also, global climate computer models are too crude to predict future climate changes. All predictions of global warming are based on computer models, not historical data. In order to get their models to produce predictions that are close to their designers’ expectations, modelers resort to “flux adjustments” that can be 25 times larger than the effect of doubling carbon dioxide concentrations, the supposed trigger for global warming. It has even become respectable for climate modelers to cheat when predicting future climate changes.
Because America is the world's largest emitter of so-called greenhouse gases, the government feels pressue to take steps within the country to limit or control oil refining, power generation and car emissions. If the government became involved with the issue of global warming, human activities and liberties that are said to be "causes of global warming" would be taken away from Americans.

Global Warming is a farce. The very idea that Carbon Dioxide emissions have the capacity to diminish the thickness of the ozone is idiotic. Carbon dioxide is a naturally produced chemical and has existed upon our planet for thousands, if not millions, of years. It is a substance that is naturally produced and consumed by plant life on the Earth. Due to deforestation, we should actually have a decreased amount of Carbon Dioxide in the world. Now, if we were to discuss how Carbon Monoxide is a possible contributing factor to global warming, I might just agree.
Those who advocate the existence of global warming cite the claim of scientists who, in 2007, declared 2006 to be the warmest year on record. What these climate hypochondriacs fail to realize is that scientists have only been keeping records of the earth's temperature for 116 years. Mankind has been on the Earth for 6000 years and the Earth itself has existed for somewhere around 5 billion years, so it is completely probable that the scientists have failed to document previous years that may very well have been significantly warmer. In fact, prior to modern scientific documentation, written records from the Roman Empire describe a warm period that prevailed throughout the empire. If this is the case, than global warming is possible without the emission of fossil fuel byproducts and, therefore, is not a result of man's doings. Al Gore needs to shut his face and let the Earth take care of itself.
Those who advocate global warming use the allegedly melting Greenland ice sheet as evidence for warming and the dangers it poses. Did the Earth not have a mini ice age during the medieval time period? When the ice melted during the ice age, did it significantly affect the world's topography? It didn't. This cycle of warming and cooling has taken place for as long as the Earth experienced precipitation. It is not man induced. Man need not do anything to hinder the Earth's natural functions.

Both Kendall and Joanna give consistent explanations as to why global warming is hardly applicable to reality. Firstly, it is proven that the climate models which support the theory of global warming are inaccurate. In the models, the area of clouds are almost impossible to record, thus making the climate models unable to report precise data. Secondly, as previously stated, there has been warmer temperature records than the present time, especially in the early 1990's. Temperature fluctuation is a natural component of the earth's climate, not a result of "global warming". Thirdly, carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. In fact, it is a crucial component of photosynthesis in plants. Therefore, the attempts to lower the CO2 levels is both frivolous and a waste of money.
As some of us may not be able to notice today, Global warming is not caused by humans alone. Global warming is a naturally caused or physically caused event. The earth's temperature shifts back and forth between cold and warmth. A reason to believe that Global warming is naturally occuring would be the increase in the concentrations of greenhouse gases, which are in the atmosphere naturally and help keep the planet's temperature at a comfortable level. Right now,the Earth is going through phases of warming and cooling and the human contribution to it is minimal. The Earth, if you haven't noticed is getting colder or warmer. Climate change is part of a cycle of warming and cooling that has happened regularly every 1,500 years for the last million years.
Kendall and Joanna are right when it comes to the evidence about global warming being man made. The evidence that is being used is weak
Lastly the government should not be involved in this situation, because they will try to take more of our money, and use it for projects that will just turn out to be a mess

We as humans breath out Co2 and it is needed for plants to breath, so even if we do produce tons of Co2 wouldn't that just help the earth. Plus with the growing number of people in this world its going to have more and more emissions, which will help. Mr. Williams was talking to us in Honors Gov. and he said "even if the icebergs melted the water level will stay the same", and its true try it with water and ice. Thirdly, in the Mid evil Period before they had cars and what we have today, it was even hotter than what the scientist say was "unprecedented" today. Lastly, the models Al Gore had presented are very inaccurate because 1. they do not have the right climate and atmosphere, and every thing the earth has, (you cant shrink it). 2. Even accurate models are only used in short forecasts, it doesn't work well over years and years. THE END

Joanna's observation that global warming "alarmists are mainly alarmists because they are paid to be" is very insightful. It is not a coincidence that most alarmists are funded by the government. Joanna also pointed out that climate change is simply a normal part of nature's cycle. The evidence behind this statement like the little ice age and medieval warming period are further proof that our planet has, and will continue to undergo normal changes in climate. Joanna also noted that the IPCC has not been consistent with their estimates concerning sea level and and other environmental factors used to support man-made global warming. This is just further proof that there is not substantial evidence to declare that global warming is the cause of man's activities.
Global warming is occuring due to the human C02 emmissions. One of the leading causes of C02 emmissions is any kind of vehicle that burns gasoline. According tohttp://www.ecobridge.org/content/g_cse.htm, 33% of carbon dioxide emmissions come from some kind of vehicle. Another leading causes of global warming is methane. According to te IPCC, methane is 20 times more effective at keeping the heat in our atmosphere. And if thats not scary enough, the methane level has risen 145% in the past 100 years alone which is absolutely ridiculous. The last leading cause being discussed is deforestation. According to the NASA website, deforestation is the cause of about 20-25% of carbon emmissions. Man cuts about 34 million(34,000,000) acres of trees down each year, which is the same as dumping hundreds of millions of tons of emmisions into the atmosphere.

Global warming, defined, is the gradual rise in the earth’s surface temperature; Global warming is the cause of man's careless and nonchalant habits and ways of life that is because the global warming scares and phenomenon. Though it is the fault of the humans for various reasons it is not something that humans should start looking for the first spaceship to get them off earth. It is defined as a Gradual rise, not a sudden one that will end the earth. Some state that global warming will melt all the ice all over the world and will flood the world, yet, we have a promise directly from God affirmed his people, through a rainbow after the great flood with Noah, that He would never flood the world again. That was his promise that will never be broken. But man’s actions do have some contribution to the world rise in surface heat. The tests have been done and models have been made that prove that even with the CO2 epidemic is that even with it in the air it is not changing the droughts and many other natural cycles, if the global warming was a true scare then the hurricane and other disasters would increase all over the world and not just in certain areas at certain times. One example on how humans are the cause that’s pushing global warming into high existence is the use of automobiles that we use now. All the Co2 from the cars are immersing itself so much that it is continuing to become harmful in many senses. Other types of locomotion have been completely thrown out of the ballet it seems like. Walking or riding a bike or etc. seems to be completely useless, even though it’s not. Another reason is that humans are testing dangerous and fatal atomic bomb and other means of destruction which is releasing dangerous toxins into our ecosystem and harming it. And finally the dangerous factories, even though they are supplying jobs, they are also harming out earth. More and more factories are being built and most are not needed or necessary. If humans would go down on their routines and behaviors then the global warming would possible not even be a problem to think about and the more important problems in our economy and etc.
Global warming is a natural occurance. In actuality, it has more to do with sunspot activity than SUVs. Man is not causing global warming; it is part of the earth's climactic cycle and is a nonissue. Alarmists claim that sea levels are rising at an accelerated rate, proving that ice is melting faster than ever before. However, the seas have been rising for the past 15,000 years and the rates have not increased. These "scientists" also claim that there have been dramatic increases in droughts, floods, and other natural disasters which point to global warming. In reality, the amount of droughts and floods has decreased. The global warming alarmists have no qualms about making unfair extrapolations or inventing "facts" to prove their point. In conclusion, the earth is getting warmer, but it isn't humans' fault and there is no cause for panic. The earth's climactic history, sea level trends, and the decrease in natural disasters are all reassuring factors.

In response to Berkely, plants do "breathe" C02 but when the release of C02 gets to the extremity of two cities alone (New York City and Los Angeles) produced 7.5 million tons of carbon dioxide (15,000,000,000 lbs.) of C02 is released in 1996, then it becomes quite destructive when we also factor in that man cuts down 34 million acres of trees which is about the size of Italy.
Ross Tripi rightly points out the absurdity of the claim that increased levels of carbon dioxide are causing global warming. There is actually less carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than in previous times, and one would think that environmentalists would be enthusiastic about purposely increasing the CO2 levels since it would benefit plant growth.

I agree with Hana. Her points on the human ways and their reaons are true and real in all aspects. Her points on the green house effect is also extremely important.
Ross Tripi Blue 3 in response to Hana Park
You are mistaken. Cars, factories, and other such man-made entities that allegedly pollute the air release Carbon Monoxide, not Carbon Dioxide. We should be more worried about destroying the ozone than we should be concerned about greenhouse gasses. Carbon Dioxide is hardly as harmful as Carbon Monoxide.
I will concede, man's pollution of the Earth is not as bad as the Climate "Alarmists" believe, but they way we humans currently handle our releasing of carbon emissions isn't as minimal as the conservatives want to think.
Global Warming is not as bad as the "Climate Alarmists" say, in fact, the earth is cooling. The C02 is naturally rising and has been for the past 15,000 years. However, according to the earth's climatic history, there has been a decline in temperatures for the past 5,000 years and it is going to keep varying regardless of what we do. When you put the records together, earth has been in "global warming" for 1,000 years.
Some people ask why the weather events keep getting more extreme, well the scientists say that they are natural cycles and no matter what humans do, they will still occur. Global warming would suggest droughts and less moisture in the soil. The reality is the trends show there were less floods and less drought and soil moisture has been in an upward trend. Even hurricanes are decreasing in power, contrary to what Al Gore and James Hampton say.
Al Gore and James Hampton keep warning the people of the earth that Ice breakage is going to raise ocean waters catestrophically. However, Greenland needs to melt within the next 100 years. In Antarctica, there is an actual drop in temperature and show no signs of warming. Antarctica is actually thickening, according to the IPCC.
In conclusion, humans have nothing to do with the rise and or drop of C02 because it is a natural occurring thing. The "extreme" weather events are going to keep happening regardless of what humans do because they are natural cycles. The government and the people in the world should not worry about global warming at all.
Milos Kleut, 3W
Kendall Jackson made a good point when she said that Al Gore manipulated thee models to frighten people into believing that man is the only cause of global warming.
Man kind maybe speeding up global warming but global warming is also an natural effect of the sun. The temperature is higher now than before. We are on the down side.
For example sea level is rising 3.5cm per decade.
Another evidence that global warming is due to natural causes would be the extreme weather events throughout history, drought are the same today and in the past.
Both Kendall and Joanna are completely correct in their arguements. 1. The use of climate models is such a crude science, it could hardly be used to do anything more than to purposely scare the public. It is way too complex for anyone to submit to the public that their climate model is something so full proof that it will tell someone what will happen in the future. 2. Our most reliable sources of temperature data do not show any warming trend. These satellites are extremely accurate. Only land-based temperature station show any sort of warming trend. 3. There happens to be global warming on Mars. This means that the human race is not the cause of the global warming, but instead, that global warming is a natural change in the earth. It is a cycle the earth just goes through.

Kendall Jackson is correct in stating that humans have not and will not be causing global warming, but that it is naturally occurring. Secondly, there is none, if any, evidence to support Al Gore's claim that Global Warming is happening. The "Climate Skeptics," which are scientists, say that Earth's temperatures are in a downward trend compared to 1910-1940. Thirdly, these problems with the Earth are naturally occurring, so there is really nothing Al Gore of James Hampton can do about it. Which means the government needs to stop funding the global warming research.

Just like Michael, Kendall, and Joanna said 1) Climate models are very incorrect. Things like clouds are just ignored in Climate models because scientists cannot account for all the factors. 2) Plants breathe CO2. Why would we want to get rid of CO2 since it helps them grow. It would make more plants and all the plants will produce oxygen which we breathe. Lots of CO2 just makes lots of oxygen which is good.
3) We are in an inter glacial right now. We have had way hotter periods before. We are just at the end of a decline period so the only place to go is up.
Global warming is an issue not man made, but is occuring because of natures natural cycle. 1. For example, history shows that there have been warming and cooling periods for many years. Through the years 900-1300 AD Europe, Asia and Greenland all went through the Medieval Climate Anomaly. 2. Many people say that greenhouse gases are the cause of global warming such as Al Gore, but have been proven wrong. Scientist studying this issue have even signed a petion supporting the fact that this is unaccurate. 3. Al Gore has stated several times that ice caps are evidence that global warming is mad made. When scientist researched this point they proved that many countries have had no climate incline. Antartica and
Greenland are examples of this. Their ice caps have not decreased which supports the fact that global warming is not man made. These three points refute Al Gores position and support the fact that global warming is part of natures natural cycle.
Kendall Jackson has made a very good point in supporting the fact global warming is a natural cycle and therefore not a man made issue. One example she used was ice caps. Scientist have proven that there has not been a drop in temperature to decrease ice caps. Also she stated that "These models are useless for predictions." which is another proven fact seen by scientific studies. "The earth gets colder and warmer regardless of man's actions. This quote shows that the use of climate models can prove that global warming is not man made but in fact caused by nature. These facts are not just stated by a famouse politician but can also be supported with facts.
The theory that humans are making the earth hotter, supported by Al Gore, is ridiculous. One obvious objection to this is the fact that even before we had all the huge factories that pollute the air the Earth was still naturally going through cooling and heating periods. This is actually backed up by scientific facts.
Another objection is that many scientists say that the ice caps should melt because of global warming. Well, if this is the case than studies should show that the sea level is rising rapidly, which it doesn't.
Lastly, if the Earth really was warming up we would see huge temperature gaps throughout history, which we haven't. Throughout the decades, there has been a very minimal difference between average temperatures.
I really liked Arlen Javon Leonardo McCray-Nibbs quote when he said,"The earth's temperature shifts back and forth between cold and warmth." I support this because it shows that it's only natural for the Earth to go through some temperature changes.

Human activity has caused a small amount of global warming. However, the principle causes of global warming are out of man's control. Some scientists seem to believe that global warming is caused by the dangerous chemicals and gases that are released into the air when we drive on cars and ride in airplanes. But, global warming has been an issue for thousands of years while airplanes and cars have been in existance only in the past hundred years. One of the actual causes of global warming is the fact that the sun has gotten brighter in the past hundred years and leads to about 45-50 percent of global warming. Also, many scientists think that greenhouse gases caused by humans is a large component of global warming. However, almost all of the greenhouse gases in the air are naturally occuring; such as water vapor. Although human activity plays a small role in global warming, most of the global warming has been caused by elements that are out of man's control.

Global warming is not caused by human activities, nor is it a cause for alarm. First, long-term weather patterns have proven that global temperatures fluctuate over time, going up and down. In the past, temperatures were even higher than they are presently, long before climate alarmists began clamoring about high CO2 emmissions. Therefore, current temperatures are not unique. Also, extreme periods of drought have been present throughout history. Upstanding scientists today confirm that storms have not increased in severity, but are simply natural weather patterns of the earth and have nothing to do with human activities. According to the video that was shown in class, sea levels have risen only at a rate of 2 mm per year, so it is ridiculous to predict that sea levels will rise up to 80 ft in the near future! In addition, Al Gore's claim that Greenland will eventually melt completely is highly unlikely. In the past, temperatures were much higher than they are today, and Greenland survived. Finally, temperatures in Antarctica are actually getting colder rather than increasing, as Gore and other climate alarmists say. In fact, scientific observations point to the fact that the ice is actually thickening, rather than melting. There is simply no evidence to support the claim that humans are causing global warming.
Kendall is absolutely correct in saying that climate models are useless for predicting such large increases in future temperatures. As temperatures have naturally fluctuated, it is difficult to predict what the climate will be like in the future. Kendall is also correct when she states that Gore often manipulates his models in order to convince people that they are the source of global warming. Finally, Kendall is right in saying that the government should not interfere on the issue of global warming, as this would indeed restrict our rights.

Akil is correct that it is ridiculous to say that humans are making the earth hotter and are the cause of global warming. It is shown by studies and facts that the earth goes through heating and cooling periods and we are just at the start of another heating period. The warmings that are taking place are not at a higher or greater rate than in past history. Also, all of the models that these scientists are using are missing a good number of aspects that should be included for them to be correct. These have not been correct in the past and are not based off of historical events. Last, the greenhouse gases may be a very minor cause of the warming of the earth but for the most part it is just a natural phase that the earth goes through. The earth had times in its history when temperatures were hotter than they are today so the idea of global warming is crazy and ridiculous.

There seems to be as much evidence that the world is naturally cooling as there is warming up. In fact, proponents of global warming now refer to their position as climate change.
In Newsweek on April 28, 1975, less than 35 years ago, was a report detailing global cooling. In the article was a chart of the earth's average temperature change. From the 1940's to the 1970's the earth's average temperature dropped 5-6 degrees fahrenheit. Scientists are split on whether the earth is cooling or warming. Proponents of global warming seem to be more interested in increasing taxes, increasing government control, or securing funding for their cause than documenting truth.
Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, is filled with speculation presented as fact. The cost associated dealing with "global warming" makes goods unnecessarily more expensive. Companies that buy carbon credits must pass the added cost to consumers which increases peices.
These are the points "bullet form" =)
1. The earth is cooling
2. The people that are proponents of global warming are trying to get money or control
3. The hoax of global warming has a negative effect on our economy
I agree with A.J. He has a very acurate view and one i agree with. There are no solid facts that man is causing global warming. All of his points a very acurate.
Man's CO2 emissions is the cause of global warming. First off, people now days polute the air through transportation. With support, the people ride cars more then they ride bike and the smoke from the cars polute the air. Secondly, people in the economy may smoke. Therefore, the smoke from the cigarettes polute the air and caan also cause global warming. Last but not least, another cause of global warmong are oil spills. In support, the factories that spill oil from there ships can polute not only the water but, it can also polute the air. In all, the cause of global warming is from man's co2 emmisions.

Global warming is something the earth does naturally in cycles. It is not something we can change.Although we can do things to make the atmosphere cleaner, and should,it has no effect on our global warming cycle.Al Gore's "against CO2 emissions" campaign is a fad and nothing more.First of all, people for global warming generally use climate models to 'prove their points'.The problem with this is that you only need 3 things right to make a climate model, they are very unpredictable for long term, and you can basically make them say whatever you want. Also,in the past before we even had cars or anything emitting CO2 that was manmade we have seen the temperatures even higher. There are several moments in history to show the earth is just going through it's natural cycle and it is not caused by man.Lastly,no matter what Al Gore says, there is no proof to show that the ice caps are melting and the earth is going to slowly be drowned.Yes,sea levels have risen slightly, but nowhere near the rate that people make it out to be.In conclusion, the earth is just going through a natural cycle.
-Hannah Davies,W1
Hana is correct in her points.
1)People do drive cars every day and in which causes the people to polute the economy.
2)People do want to make a lot of money therefore they build factories that polte the air through machinery.
3)The greenhouse causes many many problems because it warms the earth's surface.
Therefore, Hana is right on her statements.

In response to Hana, scientists have done a lot of research.Factories and cars and things do produce CO2 gasses, but there is nothing at all pointing to them as the cause for global warming. The earth just goes through cycles.
-Hannah Davies,W2
There is no tangible evidence to prove that global warming is human-enacted. Global warming occurs naturally in the world, not as a result of human activity. Human and technological activity has increased over time, yet we see that in 1955 their were 49 consecutive days with temperatures over 90 degrees. However, in 1992, their was only ONE day with a temperature to exceed 90 degrees. Furthermore, changes in global temperatures are natural. In fact, much of the recent severe weather has been directly attributed to a natural phenomenon that occurs every so often called El Nino. It causes ocean temperatures to rise as tropical trade winds actually reverse for a time. The resulting temperature changes cause severe storms, flooding, and even drought on every continent on earth. It's completely natural. El Nino has been wreaking its havoc across the globe since long before man appeared. Lastly, 'scientists' such as Al Gore tell us that our sea levels will rise meters at a time in the coming years, but we see, if anything, is a small decrease in sea level height.

Joanna, You're right when you say that Al Gore's presentation "An Inconvenient Truth" is VERY false. It is purely left-wing propaganda.

Although many people have believed that people are responsible for emission of Carbon Dioxide, which causes global warming, today's science research does not support this position.
First of all, the plante earth has been going through heating and cooling period throughout the entire history of it. Today's high temperature is due to current's warming period that we have been through.
Unlike some people's prediction, sea leave is highly unlikely to rise in such a fast time. Considering Al Gore's research and statistics so far have not served as highly creditable source, it is safe to say his prediction of increase of sea level can be wrong.
For the last, so called 'global warming' is considered to be as a nature circle rather than nature disaster. Today's authoritive scientists strongly hold the opposite position from what is said by Al Gore by saying the earth has always been this way. There is no reason to make it as a big calamity when it is just a part of a nature circle.
Soojiei Shim
Ingrid made good points about global warming. News articles supports the idea that global warming and global cooling has been taking turns in our nature history. Therefore, today's global warming is mere a big part of the nature occurance. Also, it is very ture that authoritive global warming supporters are trying to benefit from their position. By texting and having more money from the people as a name of 'Global Warming,' they have been benefited finencially and socially so far.
For the last, it is very true that people should be aware of Al Gore's manupulation since it can affact the economy in a bad way.

The earth does naturally produce an atmosphere that helps keep the earth at a comfortable temperature, but the earth does not produce a layer of smog, or causes the atmosphere to thicken or does not create harmful chemicals, such as chlorofluorocarbons. Man does. The burning of fossil fuel is emitting the green house gas CO2. Mining coal and oil cause methane to be released into the air. When man dig up the fossil fuel, they also dig up methane. Another contributor to global warming is population. More people means more cars, more cars mean more pollution. The more cars there are the more burning of fossil fuels. Also, the more people there are the more CO2 is being emitted. Humans breath out CO2; this would not be a problem because, yes that is how God made us, but with more and more trees and wildlife being cut down and demolished the less plants there are to turn our CO2 into oxygen. Therefore the excessive amount of CO2 is polluting the atmosphere. Taking advantage of our resources (destroying forests) and not giving back (planting new trees) is improper use of what God has given to us. It is undeniable that man has affected the environment, unfortunately, in a negative way.

Hana made a great statement at the end of her blog, “When our earth is destroyed, then we can't live. So we better protect the earth.” Good point Hana! Also pointed out by Hana, is the fact that factories, which make the everyday things in our house holds do contribute to the mass amounts of pollution in the atmosphere…there were no large plants creating plastic way back in the day, giving off harmful gases and such. The atmospheres conditions were of nearly no importance to them and had no threat to their lives, but throw in a few cars, factories, and man made gases and you’ve got global warming (to a harmful degree!!). God created the earth perfect, no holes no problems. Then when man messed up, things progressively got worse till today we have to deal with problems of pollution. How can there not be tangible evidence of something that is literally right in our faces...smog and other pollutants in the air are literally affecting people’s lives with affecting their lungs. Breathing is important...and pollution is making that difficult to do. The earth does not make the smog that is deteriorating our lungs! That is mans doing. The earth creates the gases that are appropriate to function, and the good greenhouse gases just help keep the earth at a proper temperature, but that is not what global warming is.

For hundreds of years humans have been living in constantly changing weather patterns throughout all of history. Just because they get bad sometimes does not mean that the earth is changing drastically at dangerous levels. It is all part of the earth's natural cycle. We humans have little to no effect on the earth's atmosphere by putting CO2 into the air by driving our vehicles or drilling for oil. In fact, the earth has done more destructive things to itself naturally than all of the humans on the earth have ever done. Modern scientist who have observed our past weather conditions have actually shown that the earth is cooling and is safer to live in than some times in the past. In fact, the earth was warmer in the middle ages than it is today.
The entire beleif system of global warming is a farce created by Al Gore and his supporters to gain a few extra bucks and attention. All they are doing is envoking fear intno peole's minds for their own selfish ambitions to accomplish what they want in our government.

The sun moves in cycles, which means, it may get warmer for a few years then get colder. Many scientist agree with that. The earth is actually getting colder. The video Mr. Williams class watched said so and it was made by scientists. Co2 doesn't really affect the earth that much because the earth has been about the same temperature for hundreds of years when we barely produced any Co2.

I disagree with Hana for all the reasons that I put above.
no offense Hana
The naturally rising CO2 levels are the problem with the climate change today. The climate change is in no way proven to be caused by man. (1)This is shown in that the climate now is no less than it was in the past. In fact, the climate was higher in the 1900's.(2)Kendall states that the climate models are of no use at all. In the video from class, several scientists said that the climate models vary and they can be easily changed.(3) Also, "man-made" global warming is a topic pushed by politicians. They have hired scientists to work to make their points valid. However, after trials, those scientists agreed to having misconstrued graphs and information. The information Al Gore used in his movie "The Inconvenient Truth" was all misinterpreted and stretched to make it seem as though man was the problem.
I agree with Ingrid's blog. She makes very good, accurate points. Also as I mentioned earlier, Kendall has made great points.

Global warming is definitely not caused by humans and is certainly not an immediate danger to the earth
1).In response to Hana, CO2 is actually not bad at this point in time. Scientists have even said that as right now, the earth is pretty much having a "CO2 drought". Secondly, if CO2 is what plants breath in, and plants create oxygen for us to breath in...how is it bad?
2) It has also been proven that "global warming" is actually a natural phenomenon completely unrelated to humans and cars and such. Scientists have created a chart that shows the sun's activity over the past years. It is shown that the sun goes through "warming periods" and "cooling periods". In this case, the sun is going through a more active period and therefore results in some melting of polar ice caps etc..
3) Lastly, the video that we watched proved that the models that climate alarmists use to present their "facts" on are actually extremely inaccurate because it is next to impossible to get a model of the earth's climate and climatic changes. How are we supposed to believe that global warming is mans fault when the supporters of that idea can't even create evidence?
Mr. Williams - this is late because I was absent the day that it was assigned and got all of my makeup work done today.
Global warming is not caused by anything man does or will do. Global warming is a natural cause. Global Warming is proven to be natural through the use of climate models. These models have been manipulated by Al Gore to frighten people into the belief that man is the reason the earth is warming, when actually the models are inconclusive. From 1910-1940 the earth was experiencing an even more extreme warming than what the earth is currently going through. No matter what man does, the earth cools and heats up naturally all the time. Also even though Al Gore says the ice caps are melting drastically, there is no proof to show that the earth is going to be drowned by the ice caps melting. Though sea levels have risen slightly it is nowhere near the rate that people make it out to be. Therefore Global Warming is not caused by man but it is a natural cycle.
Desiree Bamba B1
The cause of "Global Warming" is not man's CO2 emissions as many claim, but the result of a natural warming period.
1) The people making claims that man's Co2 is ruining the world use models every day to show their theory and its affects in the future. These models are poor indicators of anything more than a few days out. Doctor Robert Balling from the University of Arizona says the climate system is too complex for models to handle. These models use "fudge factors" that aren't good for predicting anything outside of a 5 day window.
2) Many scientists including Dr. Tim Ball say that the four past interglacial periods were all warmer than the current one. They also say that climate history shows how the earth was at its warmest point of the current interglacial 5-6 thousand years ago.
3)Finally, the people who say human Co2 emissions are melting icesheets seem to ignore proven facts researched within the past 10 years. Dr. Pat Michaels of the CATO Institute says the temperature in Antarctica has decreased in the past 4,000 years and the Antarctic Ice Sheet is actually thickening.
Brittany Nesbitt, you are wrong. :) There are so many factors that go into "global warming," there is no way man can even be considered a main one. If anything is happening to the climate, (in the big picture), then it is getting colder. Energy is lost daily in huge amounts from the earth. That energy, (in the big picture) will eventually lead to a universal state of entropy. The earth is cooling if anything, and there is scientific evidence mentioned above that proves it. boom
Elizabeths argument clearly shows that there is not a solid or provable explanation for global warming .There are many ways global warming is said to be caused by. But there are some highly respected scientist who believe that global warming is not actually a problem and are able to prove it wrong. One of these reasons are that the climate models that are used to support the thinking that global warming is caused by environmental factors and conditions. The scientist have proved that they are not always accurate because you can not get all the conditions and factors that are in the real world. Also earths climate history proves that the warming of the atmosphere is not a new accurance and also the earth has had a much warmer period than we are in know. 1000 years ago it is scientifically proven that the earth was warmer this was the mid evil warm period. The sea level trends proves one of Hansens points wrong he believes global warming is a real issue and that the sea level is rising at a fast rate. But actually the sea levels are rising do to the ice age and it melting has nothing to do with global warming .
Global warming has no true evidence about the earth's current warming. Many theories in fact say that this could be the worst time for higher temperature, but historically that is incorrect. Many alarmists, such as Al Gore, have referred on subjects such as climate models, the earth's climate history, and ice sheet disintegration to support their data. Kendall and Joanna made very clear facts about what experts on meteorologists have said, and not over-exaggerative alarmists.
Many politicians that speak out against the alarm of global warming believe that looking at climate models will predict whether the earth is cooling or warming. This information is actually unpredictable. These models are not sufficient because of clouds, precipitation, and ocean levels. The climate is actually so complex, that it is hard to rely on these models. It is observed that these models provide a limited set of necessary components to predict the future of global warming.
The earth's climate history states that in 1910-1940 it was the same warming as today, and there has not been much changes in the past 50 years. Today's temperatures are not nearly as hot as the warming 5,000 years ago, and is predicted that in the next 1,000 years that we will have global cooling. The last interglacial was warmer than today, and the Indian and Antarctic ocean were also warmer 1,000 years ago. If there was indeed true global warming, then there would be a change in all 6 of the major oceans.
Ice sheet disintegration is also a theory to global warming. Greenland was historically recorded that 4,000 years ago it was much warmer than today's temperatures. It is predicted that in the next 100 years it will melt, but if it was warmer 4,000 years ago, it should have melted then. Records also show that Anartica will thicken and not retreat due to mass budget, altimetry, and gravitational altimetry. It is actually recorded that 1 and half of ice grows each century. Therefore Greenland and Anartica will not melt and cause ice disintegration.
These predictions are inaccurate, and scientist have history and records to prove that global warming is indeed not as serious as alarmists say.
Neither the emissions of CO2 by man nor the earth naturally warming are the causes to the supposed global warming. Primarily, sufficient information for both does not exist, therefore the only answer is ignorance. The data and graphs we see today (including in the awesomely biased video viewed in class) are not accurately constructed. This is due to the fact that temperature gauges as while as scientific evidence was not correctly and consistently collected 100 or even 50 years ago. The science simply did not exist; if the science did exist, for such things as a thermometer, scientist did not see the need to record information such as water levels on all coasts or ice cap density. Who would have guessed that we would be questioning "global warming" in 100 or 50 years later?
Secondly, Al Gore's position on "global warming" contradicts God's omnipotent characteristics. The supposed "global warming"--with its necessity of quotations--is only the lack of faith that God's created world will not cease until Christ's second coming. The argument of the current temperature increases being a sign of a nearing end of this world can be taken into account but others do not see it as the revealed end in Revelation.
Thirdly, the view that the earth is naturally rising causes a return to the earlier argument of the lack of sufficient and relevant information. Though some believe--and also initiating only this view in class--that "global warming" is naturally occurring, only the facts can reveal the truth. No one has sufficient information or God-power to determine if "global warming" is even in existence.
I agree with Ryan. Joanna does have a large amount of excellent information and did an excellent job on her blog (Mr. Williams should give her an "A"). But I must contradict what she wrote because that's what I'm good at. The information in the video and on the reports cannot be verified completely and thoroughly due to a lack of rightly historical documentation. We, as current human beings, cannot fully trust the information given in the many reports and graphs of the past 100 or even 50 years. It does not all match up. I cannot back this hypothesis with specific examples but it can be researched as the instruments and scientific research of the times in which the information is given can be seen to have the capacity of accuracy and array of topics. We can only assume.
Al Gore is crazy. Some of the most famous scientists have many reasons to prove that global warming is not caused by the actions of the people. 1) Over the years the earths climate has been recorded. If one looks at these recordings they will observe that although the climate has recently changed drastically, there have been many times in the past when the climate has also undergo drastic changes. This observation proves that the stress over global warming might not even be worth it. 2) Even if the earth is warming, it is due to more natural things, says a scientist. It is due to natural things like floods, droughts, and hurricanes. 3) When a famous scientist was asked his opinion when it comes to people causing global warming, he replied, "The earth will always get warmer and colder regardless of what we do." When it comes to the issue of global warming, scientists have more knowledge and proof to support their opinions on global warming. That is why people should listen to scientists not Al Gore.
Kendall is correct when she says that global warming is not due to humans but natural things. She was also correct in saying that climate models are inconclusive.
Am I the only person that finds this debate completely arbitrary? On one side, we have those that believe in a global warming that has the potential to cause catastrophic change in the topography and climate of the world. On the other side, we have the climate "cynics" that refuse to believe in any kind of global warming simply because they believe that the only evidence that the GW advocates seem to have are computer generated climate models.
Is there no middle ground? From what I have seen, we are not in a period of global warming, at least not one that is human-induced. I will concede that we are in a warming period and that 2006 was the warmest year on record in 116 years, but I have a hard time believing that the doings of man have a significant influence on the warming. We do have a minuscule effect on the environment, but it is hardly substantial enough to go to the lengths that Gore has gone to... but we most definitely should not discount the influence that we undoubtedly have on the environment. I propose that we, and by "we" I mean some kind of organization like the UN, mandate developing nations to implement pollution regulations to prevent drastic man-made change in the environment. And I am STILL of the mindset that CO is more dangerous than CO2.
Global Warming is a natural cause of warming and not a reacion to man's CO2 emissions. The earth's temperature shifts back and forth between cold and warmth. A reason to believe that Global warming is naturally occuring would be the increase in the concentrations of greenhouse gases, which are in the atmosphere naturally and help keep the planet's temperature at a comfortable level. Temperature changes going from cold to warm are a natural part of the earths atmosphere. It has been happying for a very long time. Joanna made good points and evidence saying that Global Warming is not man's fault through sea levels, climate history, and the falsities in Al Gore's hockey stick modeland also her point about the earth had even greater amounts of warming in the Medival times than what the earth is currently experiencing. I also agree when AJ says that the government should not be involved in this situation, because they will try to take more of our money, and use it for projects that will just turn out to be a mess.
-Bradley Hereth
Global Warming is not caused by man but by natural causes. Some people are trying to say that temperatures are rising like never before. They are incorrect. Records show that temperatures were actually higher in the medieval time period then they are now. 2) People also try to say that climate models show what is going to happen if we dont change. What people don't know is that climate models are not very accurate. We can not predict what the climate is going to be like and neither can these models. 3) The last point is that people say that ice caps are melting. There is no evidence for this at all. Antarctica and Greenland are just as cold as they were before and there has not been a drastic change in the melting.
W3.
Here's the deal. 1)The globe is NOT warming. The fact is that Al Gore twist facts to make money (thats a politician in a nutshell). So here's the facts, ice concentration is higher how than it was in 1979 (globalwarminghoax.com). 2)But what about the models? Models are made by humans who are sinners according to Romans 3:23. But, hey, maybe you're not a Christian and do not believe the Bible. Okay, than belive the facts that the models predicted an overall melting, which was obviously dead wrong as i demonstareated in the last point. But, the models predicted that any additional ice would be added at the center of Anartica due to light snowfall. STRIKE TWO! In fact, the majority of ice that has been accumulating has been sea ice. Sea ice is not caused by snow fall but by colder sea and air temperatures, which were not predicted by any of the models (globalwarminghoax.com). So what does that mean? It means that instead of worrying about the penguins drowning, maybe we should worry about what we are going to do when the penguins waddle across an ice bridge to come say hey to us! So amybe thats a little extreme, but the point is still clear. The ice is increasing not decreasing.
3) Carbon dioxide is NOT a pollutant. It is a naturally occurring trace gas essential to life on earth. Simply reducing CO2 levels does nothing to reduce real pollution. It does nothing to clean up our streams and rivers from dangerous mercury contamination. It does nothing to prevent sewage from polluting our drinking supplies. It doesn’t fix holes in the ozone layer, nor does it stop landfill chemicals from leaching into ground water. Even if CO2 levels plummeted in the next 20 years, we’d still have pollution problems.
Logan Tucker W3
Global Warming is not caused by man or any factors man has created in his journey? It is a natural cause God has placed before us. The earth gets colder and warmer this is no cause of man's actions. Al Gore has created climate models to frighten people into the belief that man is the reason the earth is warming. Also, global climate computer models maybe able to predict short term weather models but are too crude to predict future climate changes. These models are useless for predictions, there is no way they can create every variation needed to show global warming. They are very inaccurate and useless. There is no evidence to support the claim that ice caps are melting. The tempertaure has not dropped in Greenland or Antartica. The Government should not act on this issue because they would start to control everything that people do(smart grid) and interfere with man's rights(if that matters anymore).

The cause of global warming today is neither fully natural nor fully man's fault.
Global warming has occured over the past centuries and in recorded history. The earth was warmer that it is now than it is now. The earth has warmed and then cooled multiple times. This is a point that global warming is naturally induced.
The earth is now actually in a cooling period. Temperatures have been recorded to have been dropping. There ha actually been reports of the thickening of the polar ice caps.
Global warming is not all natural. We do actually have an effect on the environment, however miniscul. The CO2 emmissions do make for greenhouse gases, but affect the temperature in such a small way, that is barely even noticeable.
So yes, global warming exsist, but it is natural and somewhat affected by human activity.

Ross has a very good point that there has to be a middle ground between the two beliefs. there can not be only the two radical sides that he pointed out. There is a middle ground between the two sides that provides plenty of evidence to back itself up.
The Earth is naturally warming. CO2 has nothing to do with global warming effects such as sea level rises. The Global warming models, based on the rise of gases such as methane and CO2, are actually extremely inaccurate. Human intervention has nothing to do with global warming, IF it even exists, such as floods, and droughts.
CO2 has not effected sea level changes, or trends. CO2 emissions have tripled, and sea level rise graphs have barely made a ripple. This proves that CO2 has nothing to do with global warming.
Models some scientists have made based on how the environment would be effected by gases, like CO2 or methane, are totally inaccurate. Estimate models predicted a rise in methane levels and the methane levels have actually STOPPED. That shows how these models are useless and inaccurate because scientists do not fully understand the "greenhouse effect" or at least the effect that some gases have on our planet, which is what the models and predictive graphs are all based on.
Some scientists, the minority of scientists, believe that human intervention through CO2 can create extreme weather events such as droughts and floods. The majority of scientists though, believe that this is not the case. They have looked at earths history and have deciphered that floods and droughts and sea level rises are completely natural. All of these events have occurred over the years and have not escalated in any way, they have actually lessened if not stabilizing.
Ergo, Global warming does not pose as a monumental threat as some have treated it. CO2 has been proven to have little to NO effect on the environment and pro-global warming arguments and models are inaccurate.
There is nothing man has done or ever will do to affect global warming. It has been proven in history that the earth constantly goes through warming and cooling cycles. man has no effect on this cycle it is just a natural occurence that keeps our atmosphere in check. Secondly climate models are completly rediculous. they are very inaccurate, and are hardly useful at all in predicting long term weather patterns. There is simply way too many variables in our atmosphere that there is no way it is possible to accuratly represent, and account for them. Finally Al Gore says man is putting way too much Co2 into the atmosphere, and that is bad for the environment. This has been proven incorrect by scientist. They have conducted a study where they flooded the green house with Co2 and the plants actually florished. So it is obvious that the scientific facts have been altered in the advantage of Al Gore because scientist completely disagree.

Leon said in his post "Another leading causes of global warming is methane. According to te IPCC, methane is 20 times more effective at keeping the heat in our atmosphere. And if thats not scary enough, the methane level has risen 145% in the past 100 years alone which is absolutely ridiculous." Leon, where did you retrieve that information? The video in class said that methane levels have actually decreased more and more, and, for unknown reasons, have actually STOPPED increasing.
There are many scientists and indviduals that are proponents of the position that man's carbon dioxide emmissions is the cause for global warming. However, there are also many scientists who have found an alternative explanation. Their research provides three points that combat the doomsday treehugger theory.
1. According to scientific research, the models used to support the "man is cause of global warming theory" are not trustowrthy of reporting what is truly happening on the earth. A program director for the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Sceince & Technolgy has dubbed "the climate modeling used to support claims of man-made global warming" as "ancient astrology". If the model that the theroy is based on is fallible, the entire theory must contain some fallacy.
2. Even if carbon dioxide levels were high, this would not cause global warming. Dr. William Harper, Princeton University professor and former Director of Energy Research at the Department of Energy, has stated that carbon dioxide is neither a "pollutant nor a poison" in the earth's atmosphere. Dr. Harper supervised all energy research done by his department and also has the backing of 650 scientist (opposed to the 52 scientists who agreed with the Al Gore position). Furthermore, Dr. Harper's research has shown that we are really in a carbon dioxide famine. Throughout history, carbon dioxide levels have naturally been about 1000 ppm (parts per million) but currently rest at 450 ppm.
3. Dr. Harper also points out the earth has naturally fluctuated between warming and cooling periods sinse before the Middle Ages. All of the things that man supposedly uses now that causes so much carbon dioxide emmission did not exist before the Middle Ages.
Therefore, man is not the cause of global warming. Proponents of Al Gore's theroy have falibale models, have incoretly named carbon dioxide a proof of their theory, and have ignored the natural climate changes thoughout history. Furthermoe, there is no conclusive evidence that we are actually in a period of global warming. It is also interesting to note that Al Gore actually has purchased stock in energy. One concession one can make to the other side is that humans do emit carbon dioxide. This occurs every time someone takes a breath but to say this is causing global warming is proposterous.

Isreal: Leon got his information from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which belongs to the United Nations. They are huge propnents of Al Gore's theory and are part of the reason all of the global warming hub-ub started.
There is alot of hype on the issue of global warming is blown WAY out of proportion. Just because the earth is getting a little bit warmer doesnt mean we are the cause of global warming. This so called "global warming" is cause by the suns activity; there are periods where the sun it more active as well as less active. the more activity there is the warmer the earth, and the less activity there is the cooler the earth becomes. Al Gore says that the cause of global warming is all the Co2 the us humans are putting into the atmosphere, this is in fact WRONG. Al Gore is an idiot and has his facts all out of wack. scientist have proven that human have little if any effect on worldwide climate issues. also, it has been said that climate models are a good representation for predicting long term weather patterns; this statement is also incorrect. climate models are a very inaccurate tool for long term weather predictions because they cannot account for many variables of weather conditions (precipitation, humidity, clouds etc...).
another point that contradicts global warming is that there is a past history in which the climate has become hotter and cooler much more so than it is now, i.e the medieval period, and humans did not even have cars or hair sprays that put off carbon emmisions. althought i believe that the global warming the bible talks about (when God destroys the earth with fire and flames)is fully true, the Global warming Al Gore as well as many others say is extremely harmful, is a fabrication.

Man is not the reason for global warming. On the video that Mr. Williams showed in class, it was said that ther has been major warming like today over 100 years ago. If the temperatures are rising just like they have in the past, then people shouldnt be blaming this on the CO2 emissions. Extreme weather events have been occuring but even if we take the CO2 away, we will still have problems especially with our plants, since they take in CO2 and release oxygen. The warming and events that are happening are cycles of the earth, not human activity. I agree with Keaton when he said that the earth might as well be better because we breathe out CO2 and plants take it in. There is nothing unusual of natural weather and reporters and scientists should not blame these natural conditions on men.

Global Warming is a natural cause event and not a cause of human activites such as CO2 emissions.
First, Climate Models, which many alarmist supports don't make any sense. It is not verya accurate, and it is only useful for short term weather patterns. It cannot deal with water vapor, clouds, and energy balances as well.
Secondly, based on research about climate history, the earth had been hotter than it is now. Between 1910 and 1940, the earth was hotter than it is now. History also says that it was about 0.75 degress higher than it is now about 125,000 years ago in indian ocean. Additionally, it was warmer back in the medieval than now, but there were less CO2 than now.
Lastly, ice cap is one of the greatest evidence that Global Warming is not cause of human activites. There are no supports or evidences that greenland is melting. Last 40 years, Antartica had no warming changing.
Therefore, Global Warming is not cause of man's CO2 emissions and the Government should not be involved in the issue.

Hana, if that's the true case, if human's really the main cause of Global Warming, the government will do something to make people stop using their cars.
However, the Government does not really have a limit about cars. It doesn't really make sense to me that if man's CO2 emission is main cause of Global Warming, why do they let us keep using it?
Joon
It's because the government is stupid and dosn't care because the companies that make these cars are paying the government lots of money so they don't have to change anything, and so that the gas companies will keep making money to give to the government.
I agree with Amy
She has points from both sides, and has a good understanding over what she is talking about.
global warming= not worth talking about.
Who knows whether global warming is happening or not? It seems weird to be picking a side since it's not like the class is out doing weather experiments. Like other things though, when people don't know about something, they should look to experts who do. Whether the experts are right or not, they are a lot more likely to know than regular people.
Though no one would know it from government class, nobody with real credibility among scientists is debating 1) whether or not global warming due to rising CO2 levels is happening. They also aren't arguing about 2) whether this global warming is outside of anything that should naturally be happening without people--they say it is. There is a consensus on all that, just check the IPCC Third Assessment Report. Who is in this consensus? Look at the IPCC Third Assessment Report. This is the biggest collection of global warming info ever, and nobody can say it hasn't been peer reviewed. This study was done by independent scientists all over the world. Besides there being a consensus that global warming is man-made, there is also a consensus that 3) most of the warming we've seen is from rising levels of CO2 caused by fossil fuel burning. If we don't find some way to stop it, there is also a consensus that 4) it will only get worse and that this will create possible danger for people and our environment.
While there are a few people who disagree with the consensus, those skeptics are in a very small minority. If we insist on everyone agreeing before we can be sure of anything about science, then we can't say for sure that the earth isn't hollow either, or flat, or that fairies and leprechauns are not real.
So who agrees with the IPCC report? Who is in the consensus? Here are a few names: Academia Brasiliera de Ciências (Brazil); Royal Society of Canada; Chinese Academy of Sciences; Academié des Sciences (France); Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina (Germany); Indian National Science Academy; Accademia dei Lincei (Italy); Science Council of Japan; Russian Academy of Sciences; Royal Society (United Kingdom); National Academy of Sciences (United States of America); Australian Academy of Sciences; Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and the Arts; Caribbean Academy of Sciences; Indonesian Academy of Sciences; Royal Irish Academy; Academy of Sciences Malaysia; Academy Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand; Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences; NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS); National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA); National Academy of Sciences (NAS); State of the Canadian Cryosphere (SOCC); Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); Royal Society of the United Kingdom (RS); American Geophysical Union (AGU); American Institute of Physics (AIP); National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR); American Meteorological Society (AMS); and Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS), just to name a few.
If you say this is not a scientific consensus, then show a better one. Scientists aren't always right about everything. If what they think contradicts God's Word, then stick to God's Word. But there is nothing in the Bible that says that sinful people with free will can't possibly harm Creation. Trust the scientific consensus on global warming. If people want to criticize the latest climate models, let them show how they can do it better. Also, saying that global warming isn't real just because you are afraid that it might mean government taking away our rights isn't much of a scientific argument. That is just responding out of anger and fear.

Amy's post is my favorite out of all of them. Amy's paper is very humble by saying she does not know one way or the other about global warming. She believes that no one knows what the exact cause of global warming is. She also says that the readings we have about the past may not be accurate. I do disagree with her on one thing though. She said global warming "is only the lack of faith that God's created world will not cease until Christ's second coming." Believing in global warming doesn't mean believing that it will be the end of the world. Jesus will fix everything when he comes back. What is important is what condition the environment will be in when He comes back, since he left us in charge of taking care of it. If we have messed up the environment by being bad stewards, we will have some explaining to do. I agree with Amy when she says that when it comes to global warming, she does not see it "as the revealed end in Revelation." Amy took the time to find her information and use it in a humble manner, because that is just how she is.
People are probably the biggest cause of global warming. they drive there SUV's, fly there jets, live in there giant houses and work in factorys that give out lots of polution and smoke. firstly without the cars, huge traffic and polution that we as humans let out the earth would have been in better shape. secondly we have built lots of factorys inorder to make money that has had a huge affect on the earths ozone layer. and thirdly because we have made jets and ships and giant hotels for our own pleasure. people have built jets all for them selves, and ships for cruising, and 20 floor hotels at the beach for our pleasure. So the humans are probably the worst affenders of the earth.
I agree with Hana park. We as humans are the reason for global warming. People do drive there fancy cars around from one place to another. They do want to make lots of money and build these giant factorys. and the greenhouse affect is having a big impact on the earth. if we cut our car usage to half, and destroy half of our factorys, and cut down greenhouse effect the earths weather pattern wouldnt be half as unbalanced as it is now.
Global warming is mans fault. For many years the earth has gone through random periods of time where it may cool or warm. Scientists have yet to prove that global warming is actually mans fault. Man may not have helped the warming situation, but we are certainly not the initial cause. Only about two thousand five hundred scientists claim that man is the cause of global warming. A whopping nineteen thousand seven hundred scientists state that there is no one direct cause of global warming. Humans and or animals have little effect on the aspect of 'warming' the world. As Mr Williams said in class before "Even if the ice melts the water level will not rise, it will stay the same." We know this because if you place a cup of water outside and put an ice cube in it, mark the water level with the ice cube. Wait for the cube to melt and the water level will still be the same exact height, just like what will happen if the ice melts. The water levels will not change, that has been scientifically proved.
Many glaciers are actually expanding and growing larger. Antarctica is growing on ninety eight percent of its land mass, only two percent is melting. Man is not the only cause, although we have contributed.

I disagree with Hana's points. She states that we as humans are the ONLY cause of global warming, and that is not true. We simply just do not help the fact that the earth has entered an average warming period.

The cause of Global warming is not is not man made CO2 emissions. CO2is not the main green house gas. Water vapor holds in alot more heat than CO2. Water vapor is Earth's most significant greenhouse gas. 95% of Green House gas is water vapor which is 99.99% naturally occuring. Also, atleast 25% of Global Warming is caused by the natural cycle of the sun. The more energy the sun puts out the more it warms up the atmosphere. Human activity has a slight effect on the amount of green house gases in the atmosphere. However, this small increase is insignificant compared to the amount of these gases naturally present in the atmosphere. These three facts do not have a significant impact on Global Warming. Human activity is not a big enough source of CO2 to impact the earth.
Christen Aderholt

HaNa, humans are not the main cause of CO2 in the air. The majority of CO2 in the air is of natural origin. The most significant green house gas is water vapor. CO2 does not destroy our ozone layer that is CFC which has been band in practically the whole world. CFC is a propellant was used in aerosol. Actually the hole in the ozone layer is beginning to close and is not a significant cause of global warming. It is probally true that the temperatures have been at a peek over 400 years because the sun has warming and cooling periods. In conclusion only 5% of CO2 is made by man's emission
Global Warming?
What global warming is the world seeing. When people here that phrase they automatically think end of the world or end of mankind. Then people think its all mankinds fault in the first place. That is absolutely wrong and absolutely right. It is nearly impossible to choose a side to this particular debate. But one hasto choose a side right? If so, that person will have to choose that the rising of CO2 levels are as natural as its gonig to get.
First, if one reads up on Co2they can see that many natrual things in nature contians cardon dioxide, such as, hot springs, guysers, volcanoes, the ocean, etc. So we cant completely blame the "stupid" humans.
Secondly, there is no concrete evidences that points the finger at the humans (there's not that much evidences on nature either but we picking sides right now). a few days ago there was documentary on ice glaciers and such. these scienists were wondering way the glaciers seemed less and less every three years they check them. They came to a conclusion the is was because of the CO2 levels rising because of the ocean and the climate changes. They also concluded that the humans wereto blame too.
Thirdly, like what was stated before Co2 was already here on earth before humans and will still be here after humans. Humans didnt create the problem, yeah they might have provoked the situaution to become a problem ( even though thats never an excuse)but Co2 is as natural as H2O.
I agree with Joanna saying that evidence is weakfor the agrument explaining that humans are the problem for this "global warming"
I dont think that "global warming" is such a big peoblem and its certianly not the end of the world!!!!!!
Global Warming is part of Earth's climactic cycle. For thousands of years, a cycle of climate change has been occurring. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, there are five things that can be blamed for the climate changes: changes in the Earth's orbit, changes in the sun's intensity, volcanic eruptions, changes in greenhouse gas concentrations (released from the ocean during global warming, and during volcanic eruptions), and changes in ocean currents.
The following information is from http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science/pastcc.html
The Last 2,000 Years
During the last 2,000 years, the climate has been relatively stable. Scientists have identified three departures from this stability, known as the Medieval Climate Anomaly (also referred to as the Medieval Warm Period), the Little Ice Age and the Industrial Era:
The Medieval Climate Anomaly: Between roughly 900 and 1300 AD, evidence suggests Europe, Greenland and Asia experienced relative warmth. While historical accounts and other evidence document the warmth that occurred in some regions, the geographical extent, magnitude and timing of the warmth during this period is uncertain (NRC, 2006). The American West experienced very dry conditions around this time.
The Little Ice Age: A wide variety of evidence supports the global existence of a "Little Ice Age" (this was not a true "ice age" since major ice sheets did not develop) between about 1500 and 1850 (NRC, 2006). Average temperatures were possibly up to 2ºF colder than today, but varied by region.
The Industrial Era: An additional warm period has emerged in the last 100 years, coinciding with substantially increasing emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities (see Recent Climate Change for more information).
Obviously, climate change is a naturally occurring CYCLE, and not something humans can initiate.
